Introduction of Ishinomaki City

introduction of Ishinomaki City & Sanriku Offshore
Ishinomaki city is the 2nd biggest cities in Miyagi Prefecture. The population is approximately 160,000.

The city is famous for marine product processed marine products. There is a reason for that. Sanriku Offshore in the Northwest Pacific Ocean fishing ground where are closed to Ishinomaki is known as one of the three biggest fishing grounds in the world. The other two fishing grounds are the Northwest of Atlantic Ocean fishing ground and the Northeast of Atlantic Ocean fishing ground. The Northwest of Atlantic Ocean fishing ground is the offshore of Island, UK and Norway. The Northeast of Atlantic Ocean fishing ground is the offshore of US and west part of Canada. Those three grounds have the crossing of Warm current and Cold current. Warm current fishes such as bonito, mackerel and sardine and cold current fishes such as salmon, saury and cod can be caught in the Sanriku offshore. Therefore, Ishinomaki is located in the good environment to get good quality of fish. That is the reason that Ishinomaki is famous for fish.
